De Xiaomi MI Drone 4k heeft een dubbel kompas[IMU] , normaal gesproken kan je deze gewoon calibreren in de bijbehorende App. Nu heb ik zelf lang met zo'n exemplaar gevlogen, het was mijn derde drone na teleurstellende ervaringen met de DJI Mavic Pro.
Ik herinner mij dat het calibreren van deze drone best wel onder de catogorie topsport viel. Zelfs als je daar al in slaagde bleef de drone gevoelig en moest ik vaak de drone 45 graden verdraaien en/of verplaatsen voordat het compas groen werdt en je op kon stijgen. Dit vaak meerdere malen. Eenmaal in de lucht was er niets aan de hand.
De kern van dit probleem lag in de synchronisatie tussen de beide IMU's [ Internal measurement unit, ofwel kompas].
Voor de definitieve oplossing moest je contact opnemen met FIMI [ support@fimi.com] Vervolgens werd er specifieke firmware naar you drone gestuurd[OTA]. Deze firmware was enkel en alleen om de firmware van de IMU's te calibreren en was niet geschikt om mee te vliegen.
Na installatie van deze speciale software kon je een 6-assige calibratie uitvoeren. Na succesvol afronden van de 6- assige calibratie diende je opnieuw een mail te sturen naar support@fimi.com waarna een ''normale'' firmware versie ota naar je drone gestuurd werdt. hierna was het probleem verholpen.

1 Please find a corner with 90 degrees angle for calibration.
2 Put the drone horizontally, turn on the aircraft power and connect to app, do not touch the drone after power on.
3 When the GPS stars on app is 12, put the aircraft upright and lean it on the wall. The drone enters the next direction calibration, and do not touch the aircraft during the calibration.
4 When the GPS stars add one each time, rotate the aircraft 90 degree clockwise and keep it lean on the wall for calibration. Do not touch the aircraft during calibration
5 After you finished the calibration of four directions, the GPS stars is 16, and at this time, make the motor face down, put the back of the aircraft to the ground to do the last direction calibration.
6 When the GPS stars is 21, turn over the aircraft and put it on the ground, the drone will immediately enter the level calibration and do not touch the aircraft
7 When the GPS stars become 21 again, turn off the power and send me email. I will send you a new normal firmware. Do not power on when waiting for firmware.
